Bizen ware is a type of pottery known as one of Japan’s six ancient kilns,
famous for its natural patterns created by high-temperature flames and ash, without the use of glaze.
The first half follows the artisans’ handiwork, the kiln firing process, and the creators’ thoughts as they engage with Bizen ware.
The latter half captures how ceramics breathe life into daily living,
through scenes of enjoying tea in Bizen ware tea utensils during “chanoyu” tea ceremonies,
and dining at the nature-surrounded café “Mugenan+”.
At Amatsu Shrine, where Bizen ware is used even for roof tiles, guardian lion-dogs, and the stone-paved approach,
one feels the deep connection between the Bizen region and its ceramics.
