“Another Side of Japan” Wins Excellence Award at the 8th Japan International Tourism Film Festival

TYO’s video content series, “Another Side of Japan,” has won the Excellence Award in the Japan category at the 8th Japan World Tourism Film Festival (JWTFF).

The Japan World Tourism Film Festival is a tourism film contest designed to discover, evaluate, and honor videos that showcase the appeal of Japan’s regions, and to share them with the world.
There were 174 entries in the Japan category, and the awards were announced at the film festival held at various locations in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, from Wednesday, March 18 to Friday, March 20, 2026.

[Overview]
Set in the lush, natural landscape of Okutama, Tokyo—nestled among the mountains—this film showcases gardens that reflect the changing seasons, wood-fired saunas, and cuisine made with local ingredients. Located just about an hour and a half from downtown Tokyo, Okutama offers a variety of experiences, including cycling, hiking, forest therapy, and rafting. The film captures the charm of Okutama, where nature and human activity intertwine.

By bringing to life the stories embedded in daily life—such as local scenery, culture, cuisine, and industries—and incorporating elements of wellness, the series presents these destinations as new travel options for potential tourists both in Japan and abroad.
The total number of followers across social media and video platforms surpassed 100,000 in approximately one year since the series launched in September 2024. The momentum continued to accelerate, reaching 200,000 followers just six months later.
